Class Schedule

Printable Version: Class Schedule 2019

This schedule shows the schedule for first-time home-buyer (FTHB) seminars and MPDU orientation sessions for the moderately-priced dwelling unit program for new buyers. These are different classes. They are both free. HCI recommends first time buyers take the FTHB class first, and then the MPDU orientation, if the home buyer intends to apply for the MPDU program.

Important: Home buyers who want to participate in the MPDU program must take both the first-time home-buyer (FTHB) class and MPDU orientation class. Home buyers who do not plan to participate in the MPDU program only need to take the first-time home-buyer (FTHB) class.

Registration for the FTHB class closes
When the number of registrants reaches the room limit. People who are not registered will be allowed to attend only if enough seats are available after those who are registered have signed in.

Only one member of the household needs to take the FTHB class but HCI encourages as many members of the household to attend as possible.

PLEASE NOTE: When Montgomery County Schools are closed due to bad weather, First Time Home Buyer and MPDU Orientation Seminars will be cancelled.

All classes are held at the County Council Building located at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville.

There is free parking in the garage adjacent to and behind the County Council Building.

Site location and directions

HCI endeavors to start the classes on time. Class sizes may be as many as 200. Each attendee must check in.  Someone who arrives later than 15 minutes after the FTHB class begins may attend the class but will not receive the certificate of completion. If you leave before the class is finished, you will also not receive the certificate of completion.

The first-time home-buyer (fthb) seminars are taught by experienced realtors, loan officers and settlement attorneys. The classes are 3 to 3.5 hours long.

The FTHB seminar covers:

  • Getting ready – financial fitness for homeownership

  • Obtaining financing – the loan application process

  • Selecting the home, contracting for sale, due diligence

  • Getting to the settlement table and beyond

The safety of all who visit and work at the Council Office Building is extremely important. Starting on or about July 5, 2017 the Council Office Building will have new security measures in place for your safety. All visitors will enter the building at one of two designated, ADA-accessible public entrances: 1) 100 Maryland Avenue near the cafeteria, or 2) adjacent to the first-floor auditorium near the parking garage.  No other entrances will be open to the public.  Signs will be posted that identify the two public entrances.

All visitors, except for those with a County badge programmed for Council Office Building access, will pass through a metal detector. Hand-held items, including but not limited to bags, briefcases, cell phones, containers, laptop computers, and purses, will pass through an X-ray machine. Individuals who are unable to go through a metal detector will be screened by security personnel using a hand-held electronic wand. If you have health issues that prevent you from passing through a metal detector or coming in close contact with an X-ray machine, please alert security personnel. At the screening stations, security personnel will ask you to empty all metal objects, such as coins, cell phones, and keys, from your pockets into a small basket.  You will NOT be asked to remove your belt, coat, jacket, shoes, or watch.

Items that are prohibited in the Council Office Building include but are not limited to: explosives, guns, knives, pocket knives, box cutters, pepper spray, Mace, tasers, batons, and scissors.
